Our Story


Blackhawk Mining, LLC was formed in 2010 with the acquisition of the Spurlock Complex in Floyd County, Kentucky.  In its first year of full operation, the company produced just over 1 million tons of coal.  From its humble beginnings, the company has grown rapidly over the last several years to become a regional leader in coal mining and marketing.   Today, Blackhawk Mining operates nine mining complexes across three states with approximately 2,300 employees.

2010 - Spurlock Complex Acquired

2012 - Pine Branch Complex Acquired

2014 - ICG Hazard Acquired by Pine Branch Complex

2014 - Triad, Blue Diamond, and Hampden Complexes Acquired

October 2015 - Panther Creek, Blue Creek, Rockwell and Kanawha Eagle Complexes Acquired
